Strolling the Midtown East area of Manhattan helps tell the story of the changes in architecture styles transitioned away from early 20th century European pre-war to Art Deco and then by the 1950’s to modern and international styles. We’ll stop by many interesting and distinctive buildings and developments including the American Radiator Building, Chanin Building, Socony Mobil Building, Chrysler Building, Daily News Building, Ford Foundation, the spectacular GE Building on Lexington Avenue, and of course the monumental Rockefeller Center and a personal favorite, the Fred French Building on 5th Avenue. We’ll also visit historic Tudor City, built in the 1920s, and likely the world’s first skyscraper residential buildings.
Along the way we'll dive into the history of midtown Manhattan and the Turtle Bay neighborhoods of the East 40s and 50s, weaving in the local housing and real estate markets.
